Privacy Policy
Last updated October 26, 2026
FavRex is an iPhone app for saving recommendations from friends and family. It is built to keep your recs to yourself: there is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. This policy explains exactly what leaves your phone, and when.
Your recs
Everything you save in FavRex (what you said, who recommended it, ratings, notes and status) is stored on your iPhone. If iCloud is turned on for FavRex, it is also stored in your own private iCloud database so it syncs to your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account; we cannot see, read or access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Working out what a rec is (who said it, what it is, what kind of thing) happens on your phone, using Apple Intelligence where available and FavRex's own rules otherwise. Your sentences are not sent to us or to any AI service.
Looking up details
When "Look up titles online" is on in Settings (it is on by default), FavRex asks public services for details such as the streaming service, author, artist, address and artwork. Only what is needed to find the item is sent (its name, and where it helps, the artist, author, type of business or city), never the sentence you said, the recommender or your notes:
- Apple: the iTunes Search API for music and podcasts, and Apple Maps for restaurants and businesses.
- Wikidata (Wikimedia Foundation) for TV, movies, books and music.
- TVmaze for TV shows.
- Google Books for books.
- YouTube for videos. When you save a YouTube link, the video's ID is sent through the FavRex server to the YouTube Data API to get its title, channel and length. FavRex uses YouTube API Services; see the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Artwork is loaded from the same services when a rec is on screen. Like any website, these services receive your device's IP address with each request and handle it under their own privacy policies. You can turn lookups off at any time in FavRex Settings; nothing is then sent for new recs.
Sharing a rec
When you choose to send a rec as a link, FavRex uploads its public details (kind, title, and fields such as author, artist, streaming service or city) and the name you entered under Settings › Your name to the FavRex server. Your sentence, notes, rating and the original recommender's name are not sent. Anyone with the link can view that rec for 30 days, after which it is deleted automatically.
To stop abuse, the server limits how many links one connection can create. For that it keeps a one-way, salted hash of your IP address with each link, never the address itself, and deletes it with the link.
The FavRex server runs on Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived technical logs of requests (such as IP address and time) to operate and protect the service.
What we don't do
- We don't have accounts, and we don't ask for your email, phone number or contacts.
- We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't sell or rent any data.

FavRex is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices

- Delete the app to remove everything on your phone. To remove FavRex's iCloud data, go to Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage.
- Turn off online lookups in FavRex Settings.
- To have a shared link removed before it expires, email us the link.
